We’ve seen our fair share of gadgets that never made it over the years and we might just have found another one at the sourcing show in Hong Kong, wireless webcams. If you’re lucky, these things will be on sale just in time for the holiday’s, but do you really want one?
The design of the unit we saw wasn’t amazing, but that’s sort of by the by when you get Chinese companies doing product design. However, it does at least mean that this should be a fairly affordable gadget. It operates on the already crowded 2.4GHz frequency (the same used by WiFi, Bluetooth, cordless phones and what not).

However, this in itself isn’t as much of a problem as the fact that the range is only between 2-5 meters and the battery life is a lacklustre 4-5h. Sure, most of us don’t use our webcams that much, if at all, but it seems like this thing will spend as much time being plugged into its charger as it will be used for video conferencing. The PC interface is a rather large USB dongle, in fact, it seems to be nearly as large as the camera itself, minus its stand.
We doubt it’ll become this years stocking filler, but you never know, maybe this is what we’ve all been waiting for…
