According to an article on Digitimes, the rumour in Taiwan is that the touchscreen notebook market is getting ready to take off big time. If the article is indeed correct, then we can expect to see two to three touchscreen notebooks from the various major Taiwanese vendors come October.
October is of course when Windows 7 launches, so it’s hardly a coincidence that we’ll see new notebook models. However, with Windows 7′s improved touchscreen support it’s not strange that at least some of the notebook manufacturers will be trying to cash in.
We’re not sure how useful a touchscreen notebook will be unless it has a swivel screen so you can use it in tablet mode and at the time of writing, there’s no indication as to what type of displays these upcoming touchscreen notebooks will be using.
Dell demoed a touchscreen notebook a while back that didn’t have a swivel type display and although some users might still find this useful, we’re not sure that having a touchscreen will be a key selling point for a standard notebook.
