thumb_sony_ericsson_xperia_x3_blackAccording to a post on MobileCrunch, Sony Ericsson is getting ready to launch the highly anticipated Xperia X3 in January 2010. However, they also point out that this is very much a rumour at this stage and that they’re waiting for confirmation.

The Xperia X3 is Sony Ericssons first Android handset and as such has brought a lot of attention to Sony Ericsson’s less than stellar Smartphone portfolio. The Xperia X1 was mildly successful and its predecessor, the X2 has yet to launch and we might actually see a simultaneous launch of the X2 and the X3, as the two devices target quite different users.

The X2 follows the X1 by including a QWERTY keyboard and of course Windows Mobile, while the X3 has shed the keyboard and moved to Android to many potential customers liking. In terms of hardware specifications, things are still fairly thin on the ground when it comes to the X3, it is said to be using a 4-inch touch screen display of unspecified type with  800×480 resolution, 10Mbit HSDPA and 2Mbit HSUPA support, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and AGPS.

It’s also said to feature an 8 Megapixel camera with auto focus with 8x digital zoom, LED flash, image stabilization, smile shutter and face detection. The camera can also shoot video at 640×480 resolution at 30fps.  Finally the X3 is said to feature a microSD card slot (rather than the Sony Memory Stick format), a mini USB port and a 3.5mm audio jack.
