Tablet PCs have yet to gain a wide popularity in the mobile computing space and despite having been around for several years by now, we’re still waiting for that one device that will make people interested. We doubt that the UMPC-891A from Shenzen Sinchun Electronic Co. Ltd. is that device, but this Atom powered tablet PC does have some interesting features.
It’s pretty much a netbook without the keyboard, as the UMPC-891A features an Atom N270 processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory and an 8.9-inch touch screen display with 1,024×600 resolution. It comes with a paltry 16GB SDD drive as standard, although options of up to 64GB are available.

It does of course come with built in WiFi, although it only supports 802.11b/g. It also features Bluetooth, a memory cards reader for SD and Memory Stick cards, a webcam and a pair of USB 2.0 ports. It’s also supplied with a small dongle that connects to a custom connector which adds a D-sub and an Ethernet port for when you want to connect it to a larger display.

Optional features includes a built in 3G modem, a DVB-T TV-tuner and a GPS receiver. The UMPC-891A measures 250x168x21mm (WxHxD) and weighs in at 1.01kg with what can only be described as an underpowered 1,700mAh battery, as it’s only rated for two hours of usage which is anything but impressive. We can’t knock it in terms of looks though, which is at least something and we quite like the leather case it comes with.
