thumb_hp_envy_15A second HP Envy notebook has tipped up today and this time it’s the Envy 15 which of course is the Envy 13′s larger sibling. However, this time it’s a Dutch price comparison site that is the source of the leak and we get full specs to boot.

The Envy 15 seems to have leaked a little bit on the early side, as we’re still a week away from IDF when we’d guess the Core i7 720QM processor which is powering the Envy 15 will be announced. The Core i7 720QM processor is clocked at 1.6GHz, but it supports Turbo mode speeds of up to 2.8GHz. It also has 6MB of L2 cache and it’s of course a quad core processor which can process up to eight threads thanks to Intel’s HyperThreading technology.

The choice of CPU means that the Envy 15 is using PM55 chipset, as it’s the first mobile chipset for Intel for the Clarksfield based mobile Intel Core i7 processors. This also means that there’s need for a discreet graphics solution and in this case it comes in the shape of an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830, as sadly AMD hasn’t managed to get it’s upcoming 5000-series of mobile ATI GPU’s ready in time for production systems yet. The graphics card has 1GB of dedicated graphics memory and can access the system memory if it for some reason would need more.

The Envy 15-1060ea SKU comes with 4GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 memory, while the Envy 15-1080ea SKU comes with 8GB of DDR3 memory.  Both SKU’s use 4GB DIMM’s and that the memory can be upgraded to a whopping 16GB. The 1060ea SKU comes with a 320GB 7,200rpm hard drive while the 1080ea SKU gets this boosted to 500GB.

Common for both models is 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, an HDMI port, a memory card reader, a pair of audio jacks and three USB 2.0 ports of which one also doubles up as a powered eSATA connector for flash drives and 2.5-inch external hard drives.

The built in webcam features an IR LED for “night vision” and unusually for such a large notebook, it comes with an external optical drive, which we would presume takes advantage of the powered eSATA connector. The keyboard is of the increasingly popular chicklet type. The touch pad seems to be similar to that of the Envy 13 and according to the information, it supports multi-touch and has a dedicated vertical scroll pad, oh and that on/off button that we suggested that the Envy 13 had in the corner. Finally it has a 6-cell Li-Ion battery, but sadly there’s no indication of the battery life.

The Envy 15 measures 380x244x26.5mm (WxDxH) which makes it fairly thin for a 15-inch notebook. It weighs in at a very acceptable 2.35kg which makes it one of the lighter 15-inch notebooks on the market. The Envy 15 ships with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Sadly the only missing piece of the puzzle is the pricing and for a price comparison site to miss this is a bit of a bummer, but it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out what this expectedly expensive laptop is going to cost.
