Gizmodo has scored a couple of pictures of what is said to be Microsoft’s Project Pink handsets, although it might be a little bit too early to draw any conclusions, whatever these devices are, they look interesting.
The two handsets are apparently called Turtle and Pure, or at least that is their code names which will likely change before they hit retail. According to Gizmodo, the handsets will be manufactured by Sharp. Sharp is currently making some of the Sidekick devices in the US market.

Gizmodo is suggesting that the Project Pink handsets will be targeting the same user demographic as the Sidekick and as Microsoft bought out Danger who was the company behind the Sidekick devices, Microsoft decided to stick with Sharp as the manufacturer of the new devices.
So far it’s too early to say a lot about the pictured handsets, but the design should appeal to the target demographic considering the very rounded edges on the devices that gives them a slightly chubby but soft look.

The Turtle looks like it has borrowed a few design ideas from the Palm Pre with a similar slide-out keyboard. Oddly enough it seems to feature an IrDA port on the left hand side and it has a rear mounted camera and a top mounted headset jack that looks to be of the standard 3.5mm type. The keyboard has a dedicated smiley button, although the flat, round buttons don’t look fantastic for typing on.
The Pure on the other hand looks like a couple of year old HTC Windows Mobile device which has lost all the buttons on the fascia of the handset, bar a single button. There’s a single button on the side which we would guess is the “key lock” or in this case screen lock. It has a recessed 3.5mm audio jack on the top and what should be a rear mounted camera. Again, the keyboard doesn’t look fantastic, but at least it’s larger than on the Turtle.
