Microsoft has launched a new keyboard that should appeal to mobile computing users, namely the Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000. It uses Microsoft’s Comfort Curve layout and comes with a separate Bluetooth number pad that can be used independently from the main keyboard.

They keyboard itself is extremely thin, as it’s just a few millimeters thicker than the AAA battery that powers it, although Microsoft doesn’t actually specify exactly how thin it is in the press release. The keyboard measures 355x167mm (WxD) while the number pad measures 102x134mm (WxD).

Both the keyboard and number pad has a built in battery indicator and an on/off switch. The number pad also comes with its own carrying pouch in case you want to take it along and use it with your notebook while on the road. The layout of the keyboard seems a little bit cramped and you end up loosing out on the standard keyboard layout on the right hand side with many of those keys squeezed in to the rest of the keyboard layout.

The pricing is a little bit unclear, as it seems like Microsoft is charging $89.95 for the Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000, but then lists a separate price for the number pad, which is a steep $44.95 on its own. Due to this we’re not sure of the number pad actually comes with the keyboard or not, but hopefully this will be clarified at a later stage.
