LG seems to be trying to take on every single niche in the touch screen phone market and its latest feature phone, the GD510 is going up against Samsung’s Blue Earth phone by incorporating a optional solar charger.

There’s so far very little in terms of specifications when it comes to the GD510, but what we know is that it has a 3-inch display with WQVGA resolution (that’s 400×240 pixels) combined with a 4.8mm bezel which means that very little of the front of the handset is wasted space. Well, at least as long as you only count the sides, as there’s of course an ear piece ad the top and at the bottom right hand corner, LG has placed a single button that answers and ends calls, as well as functioning as the menu button.

LG has also added a 3 Megapixel camera, 8GB of built in memory, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and that optional solar cell charger cover. The enclosure is made of brushed aluminium which should make this a fairly heavy, but well built handset, albeit not as environmentally friendly as Samsung’s Blue Earth.

The press release mentions that when LG designed the GD510 they wanted to create a simple to use touch screen handset for the average consumer with a price to match. This makes the GD510 sound like a replacement for the KP500, also known as the Cookie, which is a pretty feature less feature phone. The GD510 is expected to hit retail in Europe some time in mid-October.
