ION powered EeePC 1201N emerges
It looks like Asus is readying a 12-inch, Nvidia ION powered EeePC, at least if we're to believe a Chinese retailer that has listed the supposedly new model. However, we'd take it with a grain of salt, as the specs doesn't quiet seem to add up.
For starters we have a hard time seeing Asus put the older Atom N270 processor in a brand new EeePC as all of its new higher-end models use the Atom N280. Other things that are also concerning about this listing is the mention of Hybrid SLI, as this is not a feature of a netbook equipped with the ION chipset.
The only picture of the allegedly new netbook looks a little bit too similar to the EeePC 1005-series, which makes things even more suspect, although Asus has modeled most of its recent EeePCs on the SeaShell design. The 12-inch display has a native resolution of 1,366x768 and it's LED back lit, just as every other netbook display.
Other features include 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB SATA hard drive, a 1.3 Megapixel webcam, 802.11b/g/n WiFi 10/100Mbit Ethernet (again an oddity, as the ION chipset supports Gigabit Ethernet), an unspecified amount of USB 2.0 ports, a D-sub connector and a pair of audio jacks.

The standard battery is meant to be a 5,200mAh 6-cell unit and it should offer pretty decent battery life if indeed the specs are correct with the website listing up to 11h, which sounds a little bit too god to be true.
Another interesting inclusion is Windows 7 Home Premium, which as far as we know, won't be sold with netbooks, as Windows 7 Home Standard is the best version that Microsoft will allow. Price wise the listing suggests that the EeePC 1201N is going to set you back 3504 RMB ($513/€349) which seems a little bit on the cheap side as well, at least for what is meant to be included.
There are a lot of alarm bells ringing about this listing, but we're not saying that Asus won't have an EeePC 1201N, it's just that there are too many things wrong in this case for us to trust the source.
