Dell has finally confirmed that it’s working on Smartphones, with the Mini 3 being the first of multiple new devices. The Mini 3 is set to launch in China and Brazil first, which might seem odd, but Dell might want to test the waters first before launching devices in other parts of the world.
The Mini 3 will come with 3G in Brazil, but not in China, although this might be a cost option that would’ve made the handset too expensive for the Chinese market. Other than that there’s little known about the Mini 3 in terms of specifications, although an FCC filing revealed that it does have WiFi.

The only other facts that are revealed by the pictures of the handset includes the fact that it has a camera and a mini USB port. It also seems like Dell will be offering the Mini 3 in at least a couple of different colours, although the fascia appears to only come in black, while the sides and back will be available in either red or brown.

The Mini 3 is running Android, although this doesn’t meant that Dell’s future Smartphones will use the same platform. The Mini 3 should go on sale in China later this month with Brazil to follow before the end of the year.

It will be interesting to see what Dell has coming for other markets and if the company can compete not only in terms of price, but also in terms of design, features and OS customizations. The mobile phone market is very competitive as Acer has discovered and Dell is going to have to do a lot better than what Acer has managed to do so far if it want to steal any market away from the already established players.
