Atom N470 to arrive in Q1 2010, at 1.83GHz

It seems like Intel has finally decided that it's time for a faster consumer mobile Atom processor, as the N-series of Atom processors is going to get a speed bump to 1.83GHz come the first quarter of 2010.

This might not seem like a big improvement, but it's important to remember that the Atom N470 is quite different from today's Atom N270 and Atom N280 processors (clocked at 1.6 and 1.66GHz respectively). Not only does it feature a built in memory controller, but the Atom N470 also has a built in graphics core.

The downside of the integrated graphics core is a hotter running CPU and the TDP is rated at 6.5W which is 4W more than the Atom N270 which has a TDP of a mere 2.5W. However, if you add up the TDP of the 945GSE chipset, you're looking at a current chipset and CPU TDP of 8.5W, so the total TDP is actually 2W lower system wide.

The Atom N450 (which will be clocked at the same 1.66GHz as the Atom N280) and the Atom N470 both also support faster DDR2 667MHz memory which is an improvement over the current Atom N-series processors which are limited to DDR2 533MHz support.
