Apple launches unibody MacBook

thumb_macbook_unibodyApple has finally gotten around to updating the MacBook to its unibody design and at the same time bumped the specs up. The unibody design allows for a lower system weight, a more durable chassis and easier user upgrades.

The processor has been given a speed bump from 2.13GHz to 2.26GHz which is the same Core 2 Duo CPU as that one found in the entry level 13-inch MacBook Pro. The memory has changed from DDR2 to DDR3, although Apple doesn't offer any upgrades beyond 4GB, unlike the MacBook Pro which can be upgraded to 8GB. The hard drive size has also been bumped from 160GB to 250GB.

The screen has also been given an upgrade, although it retains the same 1,280x800 pixel resolution as on the old model, it's now LED backlit. This should mean longer back light life and a brighter and more evenly lit display.

The rest of the specifications remain pretty much the same as the previous model and so does the retail price, which in the US is $999 while in Europe you end up having to fork out €899.
