alienware_m15x_logoAlienware, Dell’s high performance gaming brand has as so many others by now, announced an Intel Core i7 based notebook, but this one stands out from the crowd in more ways than one.

The M15x as it’s called comes with an option of all three mobile Core i7 processors. It does of course incorporate the Intel P55 chipset and there will be models available with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory.

Graphics power is supplied by a Nvidia GeForce GT 240M with 512MB of DDR3 memory or a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M with 1GB of GDDR3 memory depending on the configuration. The 15.6-inch display has either a native resolution of 1,600×900 or 1,920×1,080 pixels depending on the model.

Other features include the choice of a 250GB 5,400rpm hard drive or optionally a 128 or 256GB SSD. The optical drive is slot loaded and there are a few configuration options available here as well, including two different Blu-ray options.

The M15x also comes with 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and an optional ExpressCard TV-tuner with remote. Other features include a DisplayPort connector, a combo eSATA/USB 2.0 port, two additional USB 2.0 ports, an ExpressCard slot, a FireWire port, a 2 Megapixel webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, a memory card reader, a D-sub connector, two headphone jacks and a microphone jack, although the three audio jacks can be set up for analog 5.1-channel output.

Alienware also offers a 6 or a 9-cell battery, but at 4.08kg with the 6-cell battery, the M15x isn’t really a notebook that you’ll be using on battery power for longer periods of time. The M15x measures 378x309x49mm (WxDxH) which makes it a rather chunky 15-inch notebook.

However, there’s at least a reason for it, as Alienware has added a few extra design features such as front “headlights” for a lack of a better word that can be set to glow in a combination of colours alongside with the Alienweare logo on the lid, the keyboard and the trackpad surround. This can all be adjusted from within a Windows utility that comes pre-installed. You also get a custom laser edged name plaque fitted to the bottom of the M15x if you actually decide to get one. The M15x also comes in three colours, black, silver and red.

With a starting price of $1,499 (€1,020), the M15x is anything but cheap and the upgrades will cost you a pretty penny too. But if this doesn’t discourage you, then you can find the product page here
